    I remember Cyworld being a social network phenomenon in Korea and even into parts of Asia about ten years ago, but I’ve often wondered why it didn’t take the U.S. and other western markets by storm instead of Facebook. Here is what I found from some research:
    Both CyWorld and Facebook have found their way to expand to the rest of the world. CyWorld expanded into the US and European markets and did not succeed. The main reason lies in the difference in business model and they did not consolidate their presence in the Asian market where they have traction. CyWorld did have initial traction in China and did not focus on that market, and that gave the opportunities for the rise of Chinese social networks such as 공감 비공감
