A  Sea Change in the Computing Market

    To think about the subject
What kind of personal computers do you think we will use in the future?
    Why do you think so?
What kind of computers do you use now? Is it different to in the past?

Tablet computing seems to be changing the way we use computers. Currently the worldwide tablet computing market is $35 billion, whilst the PC is $250 billion annually. The PC is still the backbone of the computing market, however, the gulf between the two is changing and this is driven by the convenience of tablet computing and the things they can do. For the PC marketers and makers the challenge is, how can they continue to sell in a mature market. Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs suggests that we’ve entered the post PC era. So it seems that PC makers are looking at new markets, essentially developing markets. Meanwhile, every two years, chip developers such as Intel are finding new ways to provide longer lasting chip technology and speed. With these chip-makers new research, it means that they are making smaller, faster chips for traditional machines, and this means that the advances in size is benefiting tablet makers. It will be interesting to see where this all leads to.
