  • What to Eat When You’ve Drunken Too Much Alcohol
Before you read: some questions to help you think about the topic and the words you might need.
In your culture, what do you use to feel better after drinking too much alcohol?
Do you think this is the same in other cultures?
As I remember, people in Korea eat haejangguk to cure a hangover. But in different parts of the world there are some other remedies. Take for example where I come from where people tend to eat something greasy such as a fast food hamburger. Well it seems that there is some research to say why greasy food can help. Scientists in Newcastle University in England have found that a bacon sandwich really does cure a hangover - by boosting the level of amines and it is these amines that clear the head.
The reaction between amino acids in the bacon and reducing sugars in the fat is what provides the bacon sandwich with its appeal.
Researchers claim food also speeds up the metabolism to help the body remove the booze more quickly.
Elin Roberts, of Newcastle University's Centre for Life said that food doesn't soak up the alcohol but it does increase your metabolism and this helps you to recover your normal feeling after you have drunken too much. So food will often help you feel better.
Bread has a lot of carbohydrates and bacon has a lot of protein, which changes into amino acids. Your body needs these amino acids, so eating them will make you feel good.
Ms Roberts told The Mirror: "Bingeing on alcohol destroys neurotransmitters too (neurotransmitters move information/signals in the brain), but bacon contains a high level of aminos which replaces these, giving you a clearer head."
Researchers also found a complex chemical interaction in the cooking of bacon produces a good combination of taste and smell which is almost irresistible.
