Bus driver
who won £6.1million lottery went to work as he 'didn't want to let passengers
down
Pre discussion questions
Describe how you think this couple feels.
If you won the lottery, what would you do first?
One bus driver and his wife are over the moon.
Bus driver Kevin Jones won £6.1million on the lottery -
but still turned up to drive a London bus because he did not want to let
the passengers down.
His win was confirmed when he was sitting on the bus driver’s seat.
Kevin the bus driver was halfway through his bus journey when he
received the life-changing news.
One of the passengers overheard the conversation and ran down the
bus to congratulate him. Then all the passengers congratulated him.
He said this was the last bus he would ever drive because he is now
going to retire. And he said it was strange to drive back knowing that he was
now very rich.
His boss said that he was delighted for Kevin because he is a
great person. And he really deserves his luck.
How did Kevin win? On the week previously he changed his usual way
to work to buy a £2 Lucky Dip ticket.
Kevin decided to check the ticket on Thursday evening but was too
late to confirm the numbers.
Kevin’s wife Michele said: “He was screaming, jumping up and down
and waving his arms about saying we had won the lot.
I thought we had won £25 but then realized he had all the numbers
and had won all the first prize.
Michele said: “I have always believed in karma And last
Christmas my best friend sent me a card which said, Always believe that
something wonderful is going to happen.
“And now it has.”
The Lottery win is a change in luck for the couple. Years earlier they
had tried to build a new life in Spain but had to return to the UK after they
lost everything in some burglaries.
Kevin said the £6,162,138 win from the National Lottery May 18 draw
was ‘incredible luck’ after the family lost everything in the burglaries.
Kevin said he was working 12-hour shifts to make ends meet.
He said it is just amazing that this has happened. He said they had
nothing and were working very long hours. But now they really can now start to
live the life of their dreams.
The couple have already bought a new house and plan to have a
holiday on the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Kevin also said, “We are very grounded and we will not be extravagant.
But this will help give our family opportunities.
Kevin said he is looking forward to not having to get up at 4 a.m.
or work until midnight These were the terrible hours he had to work.
But he said he has never complained because he enjoyed the work and
you have to earn money to live.
