  • Italian region will pay you $27,000 to move there

Why do you think they would pay you to live in a small town in Italy?

Would you like to live in a small town in Italy? Why or why not?

Molise is a part of Italy in the mountains near Rome. It needs people to move there to increase the population. They are offering more than $27,000 to get people to move there. You will be paid $774 per month over three years to live in its villages. But there are some expectations.

To be eligible you must live in a small town that has less than 2,000 people. Also, you must make a pledge to open a business.

They want people to invest. You can open any kind of business: a bread shop, a book shop, a restaurant, anything. It's a way to breathe life into towns and to increase the population.

Also, each town with less than 2,000 people would receive $11,070 USD to build infrastructure and other cultural activities.

Molise isn't the only Italian area trying to get people to move there. Sambuca, a mountain town in Sicily with beautiful views of the ocean is selling many homes for just over $1 after other Italian towns and villages have made similar offers. This was done to lure foreigners to renovate the houses and revive its local economy.
